Accommodation

Photographs of accommodationIn the Accommodation – Open Britain section you can find properties that have been inspected and given a quality grading and an access rating under the National Accessible Scheme, providing a level of assurance. This includes hotels, B&Bs, guesthouses, self-catering, camping and caravan sites. The OpenBritain website, which is owned by Tourism for All in partnership with RADAR, also contains Tourism for All/OpenBritain members' details. These are self-assessed and have accepted that they will be 'mystery-shopped', but we cannot guarantee the accuracy of the information provided to the degree of those who have received an inspection.

Where another organisation has undertaken an inspection, this will be indicated on the individual entry details. In particular, we are in the process of adding thousands of tourism venues, from accomodation to attractions, restaurants and leisure facilities supplied by our new partner, DisabledGo.  These will be separately tagged to identify them.

is the exciting new website to accompany the OPENBRITAIN guide.

OPENBRITAIN is the new title which replaces Easy Access Britain, produced by Tourism for All UK and VisitBritain, and Where to Stay and Where to Go formerly published by  national disability charity RADAR.  To be published at the end of 2009, the new combined guide will represent the most comprehensive, reliable source of information for people with disabilities and their families as to where to stay, visit, eat and drink, and travel.

The OpenBritain concept was launched on 6th July at The Deck, The National Theatre, London by three ministers - Rt Hon Tessa Jowell, minister for the Olympics and Paralympics, Barbara Follett, minister for tourism, and Jonathan Shaw MP, minister for disabled people. They represented the Government Olympic Executive, the Dept of Culture Media and Sport (DCMS) which covers tourism, and the Dept for Work and Pensions (DWP) which covers disability.   Also giving their support are a host of disability groups, including the National Federation of Shopmobility;  tourism and hospitality trade associations like the British Hospitality Association, the Caravan Club, the Automobile Association, the Historic Houses Association, the National Trust; and public sector support from VisitBritain, VisitEngland, VisitScotland and VisitWales, and the nine English Regional Development Agencies.

If you are a business who would like to feature in this exciting initiative, visit the Open Britain website.  You can also purchase an advance copy of the guide on this link.
