WHO ARE WE?
We are Tourism for All (TFA), a small independent national charity working to improve accessibility in the tourism and leisure industry.
WHAT DO WE BELIEVE?
We believe that it is the right of disabled people to participate, without barriers, in all areas of community life.
We believe that a more accessible tourism and leisure industry can contribute significantly to the quality of community life. Improved accessibility will allow everyone to explore new places and to enjoy and share new experiences – things which so many of us take for granted.
WHAT IS OUR MISSION?
Our mission is to be the centre of expertise on accessible tourism and travel in the UK, working to remove barriers so that disabled people and those they travel with are never excluded from this social activity.
Our objectives in support of this mission are to:
- Provide disabled tourists and travellers with accurate and timely information, in the manner in which they wish to receive it, to enable them to make informed choices;
- Stimulate and support the tourism and travel industry to deliver a world-class experience for everyone;
- Work with policy makers to ensure that tourism and travel policies take full account of relevant needs and are coherent and co-ordinated.
WHERE DID WE COME FROM?
Tourism for All was formed in 2004 from the merger of three existing organisations: Tourism for All Consortium, IndividuALL and Holiday Care. Tourism for All Consortium and IndividuALL had focused on the provision of business / public policy advice services regarding accessibility, while Holiday Care, which was established as a charity in 1981, had focused on the provision of information services to consumers with accessibility needs.
Tourism for All has a long and successful history of supporting public policy development and delivery.
- We were closely involved in the creation of the National Accessible Scheme, the first fully comprehensive assessment and accreditation scheme for the accessibility of tourism businesses in the UK.
- In the run up to the 2012 Paralympic Games in London, we chaired the Accessible Tourism Stakeholders’ Forum, the body set up by the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to ensure that the accessibility of the infrastructure and services supporting these Games was adequate.
- We are a founding member of England's Inclusive Tourism Action Group (EITAG), set up by Visit England in 2015 and comprising 17 leading accessible tourism stakeholders.
