David Battersby OBE
Founding Director, Hospitality and Leisure Manpower (HALM)
David's career over 50 years has seen him contribute to the work of many employer associations, professional bodies, tourist boards, government agencies and the media to raise standards of education and training across the hospitality and tourism industry, achievements recognised in 1998, when he was made an OBE.
David has devised and managed a number of skill competitions and award schemes for the hospitality industry, including the ‘Young Chef and Waiter of the Year’; ‘Hospitality World Skills’; the ‘Hospitality Apprenticeship Awards’ and ‘Business Excellence Awards’. For over 35 years he has managed the ‘Roux Scholarship’ for Michel and Albert Roux, and in 2012 helped found, and became organiser of, ‘The Gold Service Scholarship’, with Her Majesty the Queen becoming its first Patron. David is now Secretary to the Trustees of The Gold Service Foundation.
As an Ambassador for Tourism for All David looks forward to helping make access to travel and accommodation more widely available to those with disabilities.
