About

Positioned in a gorgeous setting, the American Museum and Gardens was created by an Anglo/American couple, Dallas Pratt and John Judkyn, and opened to the public in 1961 with the ambition to showcase American decorative arts and dispel stereotypes of American culture.

We are constantly striving to be a fully accessible and inclusive destination for all visitors. We have worked with a number of other organisations, partners and friends to ensure our team members have the understanding and knowledge they need to ensure they provide the very best welcome. We have made, and continually strive to improve our spaces so that they’re as accessible as they can be.

There is level access from the main entrance to the garden, manor house, ticket office, toilets, cafe, exhibitions, terrace and children's area and level access from the carpark to the picnic area. There is a hearing loop in the gift shop and information is available in large print, just ask at the ticket office. For guests arriving with a carer or personal assistant, there is a complilemtary ticket policy in place and there are members of staff who have had disability awareness training.

We offer a range of support to our visitors including noise cancelling headphones in both child and adult sizes that can be borrowed from the ticket office free of charge. We also offer free entry for Rainbow Resource members.

You can find our full accessibility guide here.

The American Museum and Garden comprises of a museum located within a Grade I listed building, a special exhibition gallery with a rotating programme of exhibits, 125 acres of Grade II listed gardens, a café and a gift shop. If you need any more information about planning a visit please email reception@americanmuseum.org or call 01225 460503.
