Visiting the Midlands will leave you with plenty to do, you’ve got the home of Shakespeare and the base of the RSC in Stratford-on-Avon giving you everything you could want from a culture point of view. There is England’s second city, Birmingham, with its museums, shops and events, the history of Leicestershire and of course the Peak District. It is impossible to be bored in this part of the country.

For scenic walks, cycling trails and quaint villages to explore, make sure to head to the Peak District. Areas to visit include Chatsworth, which is steeped in history and regularly holds family friendly events and activities at the manor house.
You’ll find plenty of National Trust properties in the region if you are into your stately homes and manicured gardens, each property has their own accessibility information, so make sure to check before you travel.

There is the county of Leicestershire which has everything from great family attractions to top class entertainment. From museums to galleries to boats you can hire to travel along the Grand Union Canal, there is plenty to do and many of them pride themselves on being accessible with hearing loops, autisum hours and wheelchair access.

Another pretty area to visit for those that love a stunning natural backdrop is Herefordshire. The county is a great place for anyone that wants to be at one with nature. The art and culture of the region is fascinating, plus there is a cider route and black and white villages to explore, as well as several top attractions. The larger attractions all have accessible features, such as level access, ramps and facilities for those who are hard of hearing or visually impaired. Many of them also hold regular events that are suitable for all the family, regardless of their mobility and it is possible to have these adapted for anyone with additional sensory needs. Be sure to speak to the venue beforehand to let them know of anything you might need.

In Shropshire you’ll find a whole host of charming market towns, including Shrewsbury, one of the finest preserved Tudor towns in England. The number of National Trust and English Heritage properties, farm attractions, abbeys, churches and street markets make it a great place to spend a few hours. Plus, you can easily access Wales from here, should you want to explore further.

Of course, there is Birmingham, known as the UK’s second city, you’ll be hard pressed to run out of things to do when in the city. From the shopping centres to historical buildings and theatres there is something to keep everyone amused. The city also has a number of professionally guided tours, as well as city sight-seeing buses and leisurely cruises around the canal. The guides work hard to make sure their tours are as accessible as possible and are happy to offer advice and help to those that need it when travelling around the city. The public transport network in and around Birmingham is also accessible, if you want to explore via the bus and train network.

While in the midlands you can also enjoy a traditional seaside resort by heading towards Skegness, which has everything you could want from a British seaside holiday, donkey rides, piers, arcades and more! You’ll find it in the county of Lincolnshire, where you can also explore the city of Lincoln – a haven for anyone with an interest in history.
