Health and Leisure breaks are always the best kind, what could be better than relaxing your mind and body while getting away from it all? You’ll find award-winning health and leisure centres all over the UK, with some being run independently, some being run by the local authority and some being associated with hotels and other accommodation.
To some, stopping by a health and leisure centre is a way to unwind with a spa treatment or two, perhaps some aquatherapy or aromatherapy or a massage, whatever it is that makes you feel great. Visitors to the UK looking for a disabled friendly holiday can find a whole host of establishments offering spa treatments, from spa hotels to gyms. Many of the spa hotels are open for non-guests to enjoy as well, meaning you aren’t confined to staying in a certain type of hotel if you’re looking for some pampering. These hotels and establishments are happy for groups to come in and enjoy treatments together, making them ideal for anyone on a girls or guys holiday or stag/hen weekend.
If you’re someone who has spa treatments as part of your daily routine because of a medical condition, you’ll want to make sure that you can keep these up when you’re on holiday, so take a look at the centres that have accessibility provisions here, or check with your accommodation provider, some of them may have accessible spas or leisure centres that work in association with them.
To others, a health and leisure centre is all about getting their heart racing and their muscles pumping rather than being pampered. Doing some exercise amid all the relaxing and indulging while on holiday can be a great way to keep you feeling healthy and invigorated. For anyone who has mobility restrictions that are helped with exercise and physiotherapy, you’ll want to make sure you don’t miss a gym session, luckily you’ll find that many hotels and complexes have equipment and instructors onsite for both guests and non-guests. Lots of the disabled friendly hotels and holiday resorts in the UK have swimming pools, both indoor and outdoor, so you can get in a few lengths to help you feel refreshed or continue with water therapy while you’re away. If your hotel doesn’t have these facilities, you’ll find that in most instances, there are public pools that are open every day. You’ll find leisure and health centres that you can use all over the UK here, but if you’re not sure or when you get to your destination you feel you need to do some exercises or have a treatment or two, your accommodation provider will be able to point you in the right direction.
If you like being active, but aren’t much of a gym goer, you’ll find that there are options for you too. There are attractions all over Britain offering everything from climbing to white water rafting. You can take a look at our sports and leisure activities page for more information. For some laid-back exercise, try a round of golf, the UK has several golf courses, some attached to hotels, which are available for guests to use. Wherever you go, you’ll find at least one golf club that allows members of the public to use the greens, so you can have a few rounds to break up the day.
Whatever your idea of a leisure or health break is, you’ll be sure to find something to suit you when holidaying in the UK.
