You are here: UK Regions > Accessible breaks in Northern Ireland > Things to do
As it is such a small and compact county, Northern Ireland is great for those of you who want to explore, it’s easy to see a wide range of countryside, coast and cities all in a few days.
With its rich heritage, Northern Ireland is full of accessible museums and other historical attractions, including shipyards, parliament buildings and more. In Armagh, you’ll find St Patrick’s Church of Ireland Cathedral where you can find out more about the history of St Patrick’s Day and the celebrations which go along with it. Though it is old, the church has plenty of facilities in place for visitors with additional access needs. You’ll find that several of Northern Ireland’s popular attractions, whether they are historical buildings or new, modern ones are committed to being as accessible as possible giving you the chance to really share and enjoy the culture that Northern Ireland has to offer.
Of course, it isn’t just the museums and country homes, you’ll also find theatres, night clubs, planetariums and a host of other family friendly things to see and do.
Why not get out and about and experience Northern Ireland’s natural landscape? The Giant’s Causeway is managed by the National Trust and is an iconic sight. The Causeway Coastal route is a way to explore the coastal area with its coves and caves, though it might not be suitable for everyone, the National Trust and other organisations are committed to being inclusive and you’ll find that they offer a range of services and facilities to help all their guests get the most out of their visit.
If you are someone who likes to be active, there are loads of organisations that take advantage of the beautiful green spaces that can be found all over Northern Ireland. Choose from guided trails or take yourself off and explore at your own leisure, alternatively, head to an activity centre, where you’ll find a host of facilities that get you out and about but also cater for a range of abilities and ages.
You could enjoy the many shopping opportunities too. While Belfast being the capital will have a large number of shopping areas with malls and high street stores mingled in with the independent retailers, you’ll also find brilliant shopping experiences in places like Derry, Armagh and others. This is a great all weather option for something to do and with the majority of the newer shops having level access, disabled toilets and more, you’ll easily be able to enjoy spending a few hours browsing or exercising your credit cards.
