BeachAbility is a Jersey charity which was launched in 2013 with the aim of providing manual beach wheel chairs to those with limited mobility access to Jersey's beaches. Getting on to a beach poses a huge challenge to people who are unable to walk or who have difficulty walking either through a temporary injury or permanent disability. The charity provides beach wheelchairs at no charge to both Jersey residents and visitors. The chairs which have large inflated tyres are specially designed to ride easily over sand and shingle making the experience a comfortable one for the user. The chairs are stored at seven locations across the Island from Long Beach, Gorey in the east , La Mare Slip, West Park, Bel Royal, Gunsite, St Brelade and in the new Healing Waves Centre at Le Braye in the West.
Changing Places Facilities are available at both the La Braye and St Brelades Sites.
The chairs are free to use, but BeachAbility welcomes donations to help maintain the chairs and purchase new chairs to enable wider access across the Island. You can visit our fundraising page for more information.
