About

A place like no other, the Minack Theatre is a must-see for visitors to Cornwall.

Created in 1932, it was the inspiration of one woman, Rowena Cade, who literally built it with her own hands, assisted by her gardener, to stage a production of The Tempest. Today, this unique theatre is one of our region’s most significant tourist attractions.

Built on a rocky cliffside the Minack is exposed to the elements and includes many winding steps. However, in the spirit of Rowena Cade who worked here into her 80s, the Minack team seek to make the site accessible to everyone who wishes to visit it or experience the magic of live performance in this iconic space.

The Minack includes step-free access to essential areas including the café, exhibition, toilets, viewing platform and accessible balcony. Accessible parking is located close to the theatre entrance. There is an accessible toilet with integrated audio description for visually-impaired users and large enough to manoeuvre wheelchairs. There are automatic sliding doors into the shop and café and step-free access to indoor spaces.

The Minack offers a range of services to meet individual access needs, including sensory planting and seating areas with wheelchair spaces in the tranquil garden at the top of the theatre; assistive hearing headsets and hearing loops for performances; playscripts on request for people with hearing impairment; BSL signed performances for selected shows, including family events; when practical, bespoke signing, audio description or touch tours may be arranged on request. While the theatre does not have a designated quiet space, onsite staff will direct visitors to a quiet area of the site on request.

The Minack’s friendly, helpful team are happy to assist visitors before and during their visit, and members of staff are BSL trained.
