WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is a largely level, accessible nature attraction in Lancashire, offering wide open spaces, wildlife experiences and inclusive facilities for visitors of all abilities.
The centre has free on-site parking with designated Blue Badge spaces close to the entrance and level access into the visitor centre. Main paths around the reserve are hard-surfaced, wide and suitable for wheelchair users, mobility scooters and pushchairs, with seating provided at regular intervals.
Wheelchairs are available to borrow free of charge, and a mobility scooter can be booked in advance for a £10 charge by calling the centre. Many bird hides feature step-free access and low-level viewing windows. Accessible toilets are available on site, including facilities with a hoist and changing bench (visitors need to bring their own sling).
The café and shop are step-free with space for wheelchair users, and large-print menus are available on request. Assistance dogs are welcome across the site.
Sensory bags with ear defenders, fidget toys, binoculars, and more are available to hire, and some activities have quieter sessions available for visitors who benefit from reduced sensory stimulation such as the guided boat tour and pond dipping sessions.
Friendly staff and volunteers are on hand to offer support, and visitors are encouraged to contact the centre in advance to discuss individual access needs and plan their visit.
