With the Virgin Money London Marathon being postponed until October, MS-UK have launched their own accessible marathon that anyone can take part in.

The idea was launched MS-UK by the fundraising team, who have challenged the people of the UK to come up with their own concepts based around the number 26, which is the number of miles in a traditional marathon. However, there are no rules here, you can do whatever you want, as long as it is done in 26 hours, 26 days, 26 meters or 26 miles between the 1st and 31st July.

Speaking to reporters, Jill Purcell, fundraising manager at MS-UK, said: “You could for example bake 26 loaves in bread and donate them to those in need, or you could make 26 face masks, practice yoga every day for 26 days or even organise an epic 26 hour gameathon online.”

By taking part in the MS Marathon you will be helping to raise vital funds for the charity’s telephone counselling service, which is the only on in the UK set up specifically for people living with MS. The marathon is the UK’s most accessible challenge and anyone and everyone is encouraged to get involved. Those who take part and raise over £100 for the charity will receive their very own marathon medal.

If you want to get involved all you have to do is:

  1. Come up with your challenge based around the number 26
  2. Register to take part at https://mymsmarathon.ms-uk.org your fundraising page will be set up for you.
  3. Share your page with friends and family to raise funds and encourage them to donate
  4. Do your challenge in July – don’t forget to document your progress!
