Lloyds Bank has become the first firm in the UK to receive a Mental Health Accreditation for its business from the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute.

The Money and Mental Health Policy Institute is a charitable organisation founded by Martin Lewis, MSE founder and chair. It launched its Mental Health Accessible programme last year, with the aim to get essential service providers, such as banks, energy suppliers etc, to understand the challenges faced by customers with mental health issues. They have awarded their first Mental Health Accreditation to Lloyds Bank after an assessment of how accessible Lloyd’s services were to customers with mental health problems.

Lloyds now has been awarded an Essentials rating, the first of three levels that firms can achieve. If they implement further changes suggested by the Money and Mental Health Policy Institute following their assessment, it is possible to achieve a further two levels, Advanced and Leading the Way.

Lloyds Bank has made a number of changes to its services to ensure that it is more accessible to customers with mental health issues. This includes making their website easier to use and improving how they support customers experiencing a mental health crisis or those that have fallen behind on payments. The bank also has added a range of signposts to services that can provide help and support to customers with mental health problems or issues with gambling. The bank has also introduced the option to save webchat conversations to help customers who have reduced memory and concentration, so that they have an easily accessible record of conversations.
