A FREE day of fun activities for children and young people with Special Educational Needs and/or a Disability (SEND) and their families takes place in Street next month, delivered by Somerset County Council’s Short Breaks Team.

It will take place on Saturday 6 July at Brookside Academy, Brooks Road, with many activities on offer including: fun sports, films, arts and crafts and forest school.

It’s also an opportunity to chat to many short break activity providers, support organisations, groups and professionals about the support and services that are available for children and young people with SEND.

Other activities on the day include:

  • Bouncy castle and soft play
  • Accessible bikes
  • Face painting

New for this year are fun family workshops: yoga, Gympanzees, story massage. There’s no need to book in advance, people can come along on the day and it is open to any parent / carer of a child or young person with SEND and their family.

The only thing to pay for on the day is lunch, with hot and cold great value food options on offer, or bring a picnic.

The Short Breaks Team publishes a calendar and newsletter at regular intervals throughout the year which tells you what’s going across Somerset. You can find it online here.

Cllr Frances Nicholson, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services at Somerset County Council said: “This is a great opportunity to have fun, meet new people and find out more information about the Council’s Short Break Service. There will be a host of short break activity providers on hand to meet families, offer tasters of activities they are putting on this summer and signposting families to new opportunities.”

The event runs from 11am until 3pm.
