Longleat Safari Park in Wiltshire are celebrating the birth of a pair of endangered Amur tiger cubs – the world’s largest big cats. These are the first tigers to be born at the park for nearly 20 years and keepers have said that they are delighted with the cub’s progress so far.

Both the parents are four years old and have been at Longleat for over a year having come from collections in Europe, they are first time parents.

Amur tigers are the largest of all the big cats and are native to the far east of Russia. They can weigh up to 300kg and measure more than three metres in length. Nearly all had died out in the 1930s due to hunting, however thanks to conservation efforts they have had their status changed from Critically Endangered to Endangered.

Book your tickets to meet the new arrivals and take advantage of Longleat’s accessibility features. Wheelchairs are available for hire and can be pre-booked at the Annual Pass Office which is located near the disabled parking bays. There are also services available for those using pushchairs. Make sure to speak to the booking office about the Queue Assist Scheme which aims to help those who have difficulty queuing so you get the very best out of your day at Longleat.
