Premier League team, Burnley FC, have teamed up with Innova to make its ground more inclusive to their fans and visitors and have installed a Changing Place facility. This news will be well received for fans and the wider football community as both Changing Places and the Equality and Human Rights Commission having been putting pressure on Premier League football teams for failing to provide adequate facilities for disabled supporters. The improvements at Burnley are part of ongoing expansion project to their stadium and focuses on the Jimmy McIlroy stand which they aim to make more accessible.

The work will include raised platforms which will give wheelchair users good coverage during bad weather as well as excellent visibility for all matches played at the ground, as well as the Changing Place facility.

The new accessible stand features three levels of wheelchair seating with additional fixed seating for friends and family to sit together. The club has also designed and installed a concourse exclusively for supporters with additional access needs that will have television screens and wheelchair level food and drink kiosks.

Speaking to reporters, the Stadium and Operations Manager at Burnley FC, Doug Metcalfe, said: “At Burnley, our motto is very much ‘do the right thing’, we’re not dragging our heels when it comes to making our stadium more accessible, we’re doing it because we genuinely want disabled supporters to have everything they could possibly need when they come to Turf Moor.
“Installing a Changing Place is just one step in making our stadium better equipped for both home and away supporters.”

Innova Care Concepts supplied and installed the Changing Place at Turf Moor Stadium. Bob Oliver, the company’s project director, said: “The progress that Burnley is making in the way of accessibility is very impressive and this level of thought and care should be embraced by football clubs all over the country.”
