Scottish music fans rejoice as a West Lothian based charity have received funding from the council which will make their campaign for people with learning disabilities to enjoy gigs being held in the area even easier.

Since being in West Lothian, the charity gig buddies, has supported people with learning disabilities to enable them to go to a range of events in Livingston, Bathgate and Linlithgow including live music, gigs, open mic nights and film screenings. The aim of gig buddies is to link people with learning disabilities with a volunteer who shares the same music taste or interest and allowing them to meet up monthly to attend events together.
Thanks to the funding from the local council, the charity is now able to employ extra staff to help them continue.
Volunteers need no previous experience to become a Gig Buddy, anyone interested in volunteering involves an induction and ongoing support. All they really need is to be friendly, patient, kind and supportive. In return, volunteers are able to attend events, meet new people and make friends.
If you want to be involved and volunteer, or just find out more about Gig Buddies and what they do, you can find them on Facebook.
