When it’s cold and dark out there is nothing better than imagining being somewhere warm and luxurious, so why not use this opportunity to start researching where you can head on holiday this year? There are loads of options for accessible accommodation all over the UK that you can find here, but have you ever considered booking a stay at a holiday park?

Holiday Parks are a staple in British holidays, they have all the facilities you might expect from a hotel – sometimes even more – whilst being great value for money and offering comfortable and spacious places to stay. Many holiday parks have a whole host of onsite facilities so you won’t even have to travel around too much if you don’t want to and with additional extras like free WiFi, you can even spend your time catching up with your favourite shows.

There are loads of accessible holiday parks in the UK, some of them have specially adapted accommodation for wheelchair users, while others have sensory rooms onsite for those with autism or other sensory conditions and others are participants in schemes such as dementia friendly. We thought we’d pick a few holiday parks from our list as inspiration and get you started with your holiday planning.

Let’s start on the far south coast of England with Trelawne Manor Holiday Park in Looe, Cornwall. Part of the John Fowler’s Holiday group, this park has a number of family friendly facilities perfect for all ages and abilities and guests are welcome to use the indoor and outdoor pools and take part in water activities throughout the year. As well as this, the park has a number of adapted caravans with everything from level entry bathrooms and wet rooms to ramp access and plenty of space for mobility aids. Assistance dogs are welcome too and the communal facilities are also designed to make them accessible with contrasting colour schemes and ramps where possible.

John Fowler Holidays also have Perran View Holiday Park in St Agnes, Cornwall. This whole park is level and has flat access to all the main facilities. This park has a range of bungalow properties available to hire, including adapted ones specifically designed for guests with limited mobility.  While there are a number of facilities onsite, including live entertainment and swimming pools, Perran View is just two miles from Perranporth Beach which operates a Sand Chair scheme, where visitors are welcome to hire wheelchairs to enable them to comfortably explore the beach.

Another option is Sandy Glade Holiday Park in Somerset. Based in one of Somerset’s most popular seaside resorts, Burnham – on – Sea, this park is all based on one level and has several onsite facilities including an indoor pool. The main communal areas are designed to be easily accessible to those who are partially sighted and those using mobility aids. Guests have a choice of accommodation options with adapted caravans and chalets on offer and with park staff receiving regular disability training, this is somewhere you can really relax and not worry. If you’re someone who wants to head off site occasionally, you’re close to Burnham on Sea’s seafront where you’ll find one of Britain’s top piers as well as an accessible beach area. The region is also home to a number of attractions who offer autism friendly sessions and activities throughout the year.

If you’d rather holiday in the north of the country, Calvert Kielder can be found in Northumberland and has been providing amazing and memorable holidays for people of all ages and abilities for over 30 years. The site offers a choice of accessible accommodation and there are a host of inclusive and challenging activities that are supported by a team of instructors so whether you’re someone who wants to relax or someone that wants to have an adventure, you get the best of both worlds.
