While rules around social distancing and capacity meant that many Disability Pride events have had to be postponed or cancelled, there was still some celebration as Brighton’s event went in front of cameras instead.

Disability Pride was the first festival of its kind when it began four years ago and this is the first year in that time that the event has had to be cancelled. Since its inception, Disability Pride has celebrated inclusivity, featuring performances from disabled artists. In Brighton, the organisers asked all the booked performers to submit clips of themselves in action and turned the festival into a two and a half hour long TV programme instead. The televised show features Daniel Wakeford, from Channel 4’s Undateables, Sam Hughes’ Elton John Tribute, the Autistix, Lioness, the Speak, Havva and Cracklin’ Graffins. Also taking part is Ren Gill, a performer from Brighton who was dropped from his record label after being diagnosed with Lyme Disease.

The show was featured on Latest TV, which is available online and on freeview. Tune in online now at thelatest.co.uk
