The Heathrow Express has announced that they have joined the Sunflower Scheme from Hidden Disabilities to boost support for travellers with hidden disabilities or additional needs.

The announcement comes following a survey of 2,000 adults which found that 41% have a disability with no physical signs.

The Heathrow Express provides the fastest service between London’s Paddington station and Heathrow Airport, one of the UK’s largest and most popular airports for both leisure and business travellers.

From now, customers using the Heathrow Express can request a Hidden Disabilities lanyard from any colleague when travelling on the service. Heathrow Express staff have been trained to assist any passengers wearing or requesting a lanyard.

Speaking to reporters about the scheme, Steven Garside, from Heathrow Express, said: “Living with these conditions makes everyday activities especially hard and affect people in different ways. But because hidden disabilities aren’t visible, it’s difficult for others to recognise or acknowledge the challenges faced by those affected. Wearing the Sunflower lanyard discreetly indicates to other that those with a hidden disability may need additional support, help or a little more time.”
