Do you have a favourite accessible museum? You can now nominate them for the Family Friendly Museum Award from Kids in Museums

The Family Friendly Museum Award celebrates museums, galleries and heritage attractions that go the extra mile to provide an excellent family friendly experience. The awards, which were launched in 2014, allows visitors to have their say and is the only award for museums in the country which is judged by those that use their facilities.

Each year, one museum, gallery, historic home or heritage site which has made outstanding efforts to welcome children and families is recognised. Last year, The Family Friendly Museum Award from Home, an online event, was held celebrating the best digital activities created by museums, galleries, historic houses and heritage sites.

The last Family Friendly Museum Award was announced in October 2019, with the Andrew Carnegie Birthplace Museum receiving the top award. The Museum of Liverpool and the Great North Museum: Hancock were named Best Large and Best Medium Medium respectively.

The award categories for this year are:

  • Best Small Museum: up to 100k visits
  • Best Medium Museum: 100-400k visits
  • Best Large Museum: 400k + visits
  • Best Digital Acvitivity
  • Best Accessible Museum
