The 30th anniversary of Warrington Disability Awareness Day is set to go ahead subject to coronavirus restrictions being lifted as planned.

After monitoring guidance from the government, the organisers have announced that they will go ahead with the event on 12th September at Walton Hall and Gardens, with a number of covid-safe activities. Warrington Disability Awareness Day is the UK’s largest voluntary led pan-disability exhibition and the aim of this year’s event is to promote independent living along with the theme: It’s What Disabled People Can Do that matters. Exhibitors throughout the event will showcase solutions to support independent living alongside over 100 charities and support groups.

Speaking to reporters, Dave Thompson MBE DL, Event Co-ordinator, said: “The health and safety of our visitors, exhibitors and our team is always our number one priority. This is particularly important given the communities that DAD involves. After consulting with Public Health and our Local Authorities Event Safety Team to ensure we can follow national and local guidance, and we are pleased to confirm that our 30th annual event will go ahead on Sunday, 12th September.
“This will of course be dependent on the government lifting of the ban on large social gatherings and other measures that may affect the holding of the event.”

Most of this year’s exhibitors will be located within a village area which will also include a sports zone, performing arts marquee and a children’s play area. On the day, visitors can gain an insight into the help and support that is available locally, regionally and nationally. A number of sports activities are available for those to enjoy such as fencing, boccia, football and scuba diving in the onsite pool. A number of the UK’s leading disabled artists will be in the Art’s Marquee while dog display teams, birds of prey, bands and other demonstrations will take place in the Centre Arena. Children can also spend time at the funfair, accessible zoo, crazy golf and more.

Support services include an accessible Park and Ride, free busses from the town centre, free scooter and wheelchair loans, BSL interpreters, unisex wheelchair accessible toilets and over 100 trained stewards.
