CBeebies viewers have taken to social media to praise the appointment of the channel’s new presenter, George Webster, who is joining the team on CBeebies House.

The 20 year old actor and dancer from Leeds has Down’s Syndrome and is an ambassador for the charity Mencap, who champion disabled people across the UK. George has worked with the BBC previously, presenting a video for BBC Bitesize which helped viewers better understand Down’s Syndrome.

Since announcing his new role via the BBC’s official Twitter page, the broadcaster has received hundreds of positive messages from CBeebies fans who are excited to see George in his new job. Mencap also commented on his appointment, tweeting: “You are a brilliant role model so it is great you will have the chance to introduce yourself to so many people.”

Speaking about the reaction, George told reporters: “Today’s reaction has been amazing and I am so happy to have so much support. I am over the moon and overjoyed. It’s brilliant. All the positive feedback has been overwhelming.”
