New research conducted by Dreams - the Official Sleep Partner for Team GB and ParalympicsGB - reveals that a third (36 per cent) of Brits read a book as part of their evening bedtime routine, and one in 10 use books to help them wind down every night. However, visually impaired individuals have fewer reading options for winding down for bed, due to the limited availability of audio or braille books.

The new book – which Dreams is also releasing as an audio story and animated film, narrated by Joanna Page - depicts Millie’s story of losing her sight and becoming a Para-Alpine skier, winning three Paralympic medals to date. The bedtie story aims to inspire visually impaired children to keep active and follow their sporting dreams, especially as visially impaired people are twice as likely to be inactive than people without sight loss.

Millie Knight, ParalympicsGB medallist and Para-Alpine Skier comments: “I’m so excited that Dreams has turned my Paralympic journey into a children’s bedtime story, and I’m even more excited they have translated it into braille to make it accessible to visually impaired children. I would have loved to read, watch and listen to a story like this when I was still a child with dreams of becoming a Para-Skier, and I hope this helps the next generation to sleep soundly and dream big.”

David Clarke, Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) Chief Operating Officer, said: “We are really excited to collaborate with Dreams, offering our expertise and support to share Millie’s incredible story across the country in the form of a braille book, so that blind and partially sighted book lovers can read, enjoy and be inspired by her amazing journey.

For many blind and partially sighted people, like me, braille is a vital tool opening the door to independence, learning literacy and most of all, the enjoyment of reading. I’m really proud of our involvement in this initiative and we can’t wait to see Millie out in Beijing competing for a Paralympic medal.”

Simon Moore, Marketing Director at Dreams, added: “Dreams is really proud to be the Official Sleep Partner for Team GB and ParalympicsGB. To celebrate the partnership, we’re thrilled to have created this heart-warming bedtime story with our ambassador Millie Knight. This bedtime story is very special to Dreams and took months to get just right, and we can’t wait to share it with the nation as the Paralympic Winter Games begin. We wish Millie lots of luck for Beijing and hope the next part of her Paralympic journey will inspire even more people .”

The new braille book will be available free as an audiobook, animated video, and a limited number of printed copies with braille translation will be available in Dreams stores across the UK, and as competition prizes on to win on Millie’s, ParalympicsGB and RNIB social channels ahead of the Paralympic Games which begin in Beijing March 4th.
