Slimbridge, the UK’s leading wetland conservation charity, located in Gloucestershire, is proud to announce that they have been awarded Silver in the Accessible and Inclusive Tourism Award at the South West Tourism Excellence Awards for 2021/22.
Speaking about the award on their website, the team at Slimbridge said: “The award recognises that we provide a truly memorable visitor experience for everyone- particularly those with accessibility requirements and demonstrate excellence across every aspect of our business.”
Winning this award at the South West Tourism Awards Ceremony earlier in April is a huge achievement for everyone at Slimbridge and their sister sites. Slimbridge WWT’s founder Sir Peter Scott had a vision that these sites would be able to help people connect with nature and aimed for every centre to be accessible to everyone, so the award was incredibly well received by everyone involved.
At Slimbridge, there are enhanced facilities for everyone, with a host of accessibility features, including a wheelchair friendly Wild Safari, an accessible Estuary Tower Hide and the Summer Walkway and viewing platform. The excitement doesn’t end there, Stroud District Council have also recently announced that they have been successful in receiving funding for a Changing Places facility which will be installed at Slimbridge Wetlands Centre.
Slimbridge’s Visitor Experience Manager, Fran Penny, said: “We are thrilled to have won Silver in the South West Tourism Awards, especially after such a milestone year for the centre. We wouldn’t have been able to achieve this award without the amazing support of our staff, volunteers and all our members and visitors. We want to give everyone the opportunity to get closer to nature.”
