The new Elizabeth tube Line tube in London is now officially open and has a variety of accessible features making it easier to make your way around the city.

The new trains that are being used across the Elizabeth line each have four dedicated wheelchair spaces close to the doors and separate from multi-use spaces for wheelchairs, buggies, luggage and cycles. Priority seats are well marked and there are dedicated wheelchair spaces in carriage 5. There are emergency alarm buttons located at every wheelchair space on the trains, which will connect you with the driver. All Elizabeth line stations are step-free or are in the process of being made step-free from street to platforms.

The following stations along the Elizabeth Line have level access from platform to the train:

  • Paddington
  • Tottenham Court Road
  • Farringdon
  • Liverpool Street
  • Whitechapel
  • Canary Wharf
  • Woolwich
  • Heathrow stations

Bond Street will have level access when it opens later this year and Custom House has step-free access from street to train if using carriage 5. There are also boarding ramps available for customers who need them. At other stations along the line, staff will deploy a manual boarding ramp between the platform and the train. This service does not need to be booked in advance.

Travellers using the Elizabeth line are advised to use carriage 5 at all stations as this will allow step free access and dedicated wheelchair spaces whether you need a boarding ramp or not. Carriage 5 generally stops in the middle of the platform and will include blue wheelchair signs on the train doors, on the platform itself and on the walls.

Transport for London offer a free travel mentoring service which can offer you advice or assistance on your journey as part of this new network. Elizabeth Line customers who need assistance on and off trains can use the same Turn Up and Go service as tube and London overground customers. You can find out more about the assistance available by visiting their website here.

Travellers can also download the TfL Go app which has an up to date step-free map.
