Dave Clarke, the former Great Britain blind football captain has been announced as the new chief executive of the British Paralympic Association, succeeding Mike Sharrock, when he steps down after four years in the role in February.

Clarke represented England 144 times and scored 128 goals, competing at three Paralympics. Speaking about his appointment, he told reporters he was thrilled and that the BPA is an organisation that is close to his heart. Currently, Dave Clarke is the vice chair of the BPA and was a torchbearer at the London 2012 Olympic opening ceremony.

He told reporters: “My experience as a Paralympian has shown me the unique power sport can have to change attitudes and boost physical and mental wellbeing for everybody.”

The next Paralympics are in Paris in 2023.
