This year, Parkinson’s Awareness Week runs from 10th – 16th April and will have a focus on keeping physically active.

Did you know that keeping active is extremely important for people with Parkinson’s? That is one of the reasons why the organisers of this year’s Awareness Week are encouraging the public to fundraise by doing some form of physical activity, whether that’s running, walking, cycling, dancing or anything else, as long as you move and have fun! If you want to get some inspiration or join in with one of the organised events, click here there are a variety of activities taking place each day of Parkinson’s Awareness Week suitable for all abilities and ages. You can also find fundraising registration packs for those of you who want to go out and have your own fun!

Parkinson’s Disease is a neurological condition that primarily affects the part of the brain that is responsible for controlling movement. Many think that it is something that only affects the elderly, however thousands of people receive their diagnosis before the age of forty. At the moment, there is no definitive reason why someone might develop Parkinson’s and there is also no cure, though there are treatments that can help the management of symptoms. By joining in with this year’s Parkinson’s Awareness Week, you can help raise money for vital research which could contribute to discovering more treatment, preventative measures and even cures.

All the work done by Parkinson’s UK and other Parkinson’s organisations around the world is funding through donations from the public. To donate, fundraise, find out more about Parkinson’s, support and to sign up for the Physically Fun Fundraiser here.
