Forestry England’s Westonbirt, The National Arboretum illuminated trail ‘Christmas at Westonbirt’ continues until 31st December, offering visitors the perfect Twixmas outing: an atmospheric walk through one of the world’s most celebrated tree collections, transformed by light and sound.

Twixmas has become a popular moment for Westonbirt regulars and first-time visitors alike.

With Christmas celebrations behind and the New Year still ahead, the trail provides a calm, restorative way to enjoy the arboretum in a new light.

This year’s event embraces the beauty of the natural world with a host of new installations inspired by wildlife, woodland and the changing seasons.

Large specimen trees become the centrepieces of shifting colour displays, while open garden spaces host interactive installations that appeal to families.

The new Mycelium Network invites visitors to step into a glowing world of colour changing mushrooms, and a fibre optic network symbolising the hidden connections of the forest floor.

Ten giant wicker woodland animals including a badger, fox, hare, pheasant, barn owl, red squirrel, hedgehog, stag and weasel will be nestled amongst the arboretum’s plants, offering delightful encounters along the route. Plus so much more!

The route uses Westonbirt’s natural contours to dramatic effect, creating long sightlines and immersive pockets of light.

Visitors often comment on the tranquillity of Twixmas, when demand is steady but less intense than early-season weekends. As a result, the final days leading up to New Year can be an ideal time to explore.
