Purple Tuesday is coming on Tuesday 12th November, on this day businesses up and down the country will be making changes to their stores to make them more accessible to people with disabilities. The aim of Purple Tuesday is to celebrate and call attention to the “Purple Pound”, the consumer spending power of disabled people and their families which is worth an estimated £2.25 trillion yet only 10% of UK businesses actively target the disability market.

Designer outlet village Clarks Village have announced a number of steps they will be taking and encouraging their brand partners to take as part of Purple Tuesday to improve the customer experience for their disabled customers including:

- Offering a quiet hour between 4pm – 5pm during the weekdays and 9am – 10 am on Saturdays in addition to their regular Sunday Quiet Hour of 10am – 11am, where music can be turned off or lowered.

- Lights to be dimmed to a lower level or some lights turned off where possible.

- Improve the navigation within stores, by offering clear paths and ensuring tables of stock are easy to move around.

These new additions will be implemented on top of their existing accessibility features which include accessible parking, Shopmobility services, Dementia awareness and disability awareness trained staff, free hidden disability lanyards and accessible toilet facilities.
