The fun is bubbling over this summer at Winchester Science Centre! Between Saturday 19th July and Wednesday 3rd September families are invited discover the science of bubbles with every pop. Visitors can play with bubbles, dance with bubbles, explore nature’s bubbles and even get inside bubbles as interactive activities and explosive shows bring all the bubble-tastic fun to life. And the summer fun doesn’t end when the Science Centre doors close. Movie fans can grab some popcorn for an early evening showing of classic kids films like Shrek, Trolls and Ratatouille under the stars of The Planetarium at Starlight Cinema every Wednesday during the school holidays.

What is a bubble? Curious minds of all ages can find out this summer. Outside in the stunning landscape of the South Downs National Park, families can grab a giant bubble wand and get creative with giant bubble play. There’ll be opportunities to explore what shapes triangle or square bubble wands make and to see who can make the biggest bubbles. And as the bubbles float away across the stunning skyline, children can settle down for a bubble storytime session with the science Inspirers.

Back inside the bubble fun doesn’t stop. At regular intervals throughout the day, Science Live will fill with bubbles for a pop-tastic bubble party and over in the Science Theatre audiences can join the science Inspirers in The Bubble Show. Through a double bubble of exciting experiments and daring demos, this 20-minute free live show will bring to life the chemistry of the states of matter and the physics of light. Audiences will discover if bubbles can bounce and be wowed by bubbles being set on fire!

There’s so much science fun in store, families won’t even realise they’ll be learning along the way! Using microscopes, explorers can discover how bubbles aren’t just manmade but can be found in nature as well. There’ll also be a chance to take part in a make and take bubble wand activity and make memories that will last a lifetime with some bubble-tastic photo opportunities including putting yourself in a giant bubble.

And families are in for a pop of movie magic from 5pm every Wednesday during the school holidays, as classic kids films play out under the stars of The Planetarium. Audiences are invited to grab some popcorn, sit back and relax with a totally unique cinema experience. The late-afternoon mini movie series includes Shrek (23rd July), Flushed Away (30th July), Trolls (6th August), Kung-fu Panda (13th August), Ratatouille (20th August) and Madagascar (27th August).*

As well as all the bubble and cinema activities, there’ll be all the usual Science Centre fun to excite all ages. The ultimate family summer space journey, Solar System Adventure, a live presenter-led show, is back in the Planetarium. And the colourful visuals of We Are Stars, a subtitled film show, will take families on an adventure through space and time.* Families can get hands-on with sound, hearing and vibration on the upper floor. Climb inside a giant guitar. Explore the acoustic rocket. And even learn some British Sign Language. On the lower floor mini astronauts can blast off on a journey through Explorer:Space to discover more about what it’s like to live and work in space.

*Please note, the Planetarium is an additional £4 per ticket and Starlight Cinema is an additional £8.50 for adults and £6.50 for children.
