Fidget muffs are specially hand-crafted comforters with a variety of textures, colours and attachments such as buttons, ribbons and zips. They offer gentle stimulation for restless hands, helping to reduce anxiety, promote calm and provide comfort for those experiencing the effects of dementia. For many, these muffs not only serve as a soothing aid but also provide feelings of safety and reassurance.

This initiative complements Strawberry Field’s existing Love to Move sessions, a dementia-friendly seated exercise programme developed by the British Gymnastics Foundation. The sessions use movement, music and gentle exercises to support coordination, memory and overall wellbeing. They are designed to stimulate both body and mind, encouraging social interaction and a sense of joy among participants.

Major Michelle Lovegrove-Huggins, Mission Director at Strawberry Field, said: "Our vision has always been to create a welcoming space where everyone feels valued. By introducing sensory fidget muffs alongside our Love to Move sessions, we are deepening our support for people living with dementia and their families. It’s about bringing comfort, connection and moments of happiness to those who need it most."
