About

Book browsing heaven and a great café in the heart of the Peaks!

High Peak Bookstore and Café occupies an ideal location in the heart of the Peak District in Derbyshire, within easy reach of Buxton, Ashbourne, Bakewell and Matlock and close to the numerous attractions offered by the Peak District and Staffordshire Moorlands. With 5,000 square feet of book-buying heaven and an excellent café it’s hardly surprising we’re a Derbyshire destination for many on our own merit.

Book lovers will enjoy browsing through our many and varied book sections, from architecture to zoology, offering an extensive and eclectic range of fiction and non-fiction titles, the majority of which are less than half-price. We have a dedicated children’s room with a great selection for children of all ages.

Additionally, we sell traditional and contemporary greeting cards; music - with a selection of blues, jazz, classical, folk and big band CDs; even birdfeeders and food for our feathered friends.

Our café is a great place to relax and enjoy time with friends and family. Throughout the day we serve freshly ground local coffee, and an award winning range of loose-leaf teas, complemented by light meals, cakes and snacks. Our kitchen, open until 4.00pm daily (3.30pm on Sunday), serves delicious light breakfasts, brunch and lunch including paninis, sandwiches, soups, quiche and salad. The emphasis is very much on home-made, including our own pesto, dressings and warming soups.

High Peak Bookstore and Café is open seven days a week. The café closes half-an-hour before the bookstore. We have a large-free car park, and dogs are welcome with well behaved owners. You’ll find us on the A515 Ashbourne Road 2 miles south of Buxton.
