AccessAble, the disability organisation, has revealed the results of their survey, Accessibility and You, which has highlighted a major accessibility gap for the UK’s 20 million disabled people and carers.

The survey focused on people’s experiences with accessing venues and services, the results show that 99% of respondents were having to plan trips well in advance and would search for information before travelling. This has revealed the need for this information to be detailed, accurate, up to date and easy to find. Of those people who managed to find accessibility information, only 14% of them got correct details and 80% found that the information provided was inaccurate when they got to the venue.

This level of inaccuracy leads people to feeling anxious about going somewhere new and according to the survey, many of the respondents said that they avoided going somewhere new because of a lack of accessibility information. 77% of people said that they had to leave a venue because on arrival, they found that the accessibility wasn’t as expected.
