The charity Attitude is Everything have released a guide to accessibility at live music events, it is available to performers and promoters to give practical advice on how to make adjustments for Deaf and disabled fans. Attitude is Everything work with audiences, artists and the music industry to improve access to live music for deaf and disabled people. They have been working with the UK’s live music industry since 2000, working with venues and festivals across the UK to help them be more accessible. The charity has a network of disabled mystery shoppers who give their feedback on experiences at gigs and music events. This has allowed them to collect information on how many music venues which are not designed with accessibility in mind can become more accessible with small, achievable adjustments.

The DIY access guide offers practical tips for organising accessible music events such as checking that access information is available on venue websites or speaking to bar staff to make sure that people who may have issues accessing a high counter will still be served.

As well as offering advice, the guide also explains why accessibility features are important and draws attention to the 13.3 million Deaf and disabled people who could be potential fans. There are also quotes throughout the guide from both music fans who benefit from accessibility features and people who Attitude is Everything have already worked with to improve their events. Trustee for Attitude is Everything and contributor to the guide Hannah McKearnen said "Most places don’t intentionally shut us out. They just need the right tools and knowledge. It’s so important for bands and promoters to be aware of the access barriers that their fans face so they can work with venues to solve them"

The guide can be downloaded for free from the Attitude is Everything website and is available in several formats. To download this invaluable guide click here.
