A dance school in Northampton that provides sessions for disabled people has started hosting daily sessions online to give people a sense of normality during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Born to Perform is usually run from the Bee Hive facility in Northampton and specialises in dance sessions for disabled adults and children. Since the closure of the venue dur to the Coronavirus outbreak, the organisers have taken the school online and now offer daily sessions in a host of dances and drama, all of which have been hugely popular.

Speaking to her local paper, Kimerbley Carey, one of Born to Perform’s founders, said: “The online sessions have proved to be more successful than we really thought. We had people saying that without the online sessions they’d be so down, so it is key to building their confidence.
“We’ve had such good feedback and people say they look forward to it every day. For those who have autism, they need structure and this gives them that and helps to maintain a bit of normality during the pandemic.”

The sessions are held on Zoom, allowing the participants to interact as they would have done in class.

Born to Perform was set up earlier this year after the founders noticed that there was a huge need for dance and drama sessions for disabled people.

Kimberley said: “We’ve had six and seven year olds with Down’s Syndrome who were so happy because it gives them a chance to be themselves. The lockdown has given us even more of a push to continue afterwards and even more reason to expand and offer more opportunities.”
