Purple Tuesday, the annual event to encourage businesses across the UK to be more accessible, is taking place on 3rd November 2020.

Purple Tuesday is a programme of organisations of all sizes from all sectors with the common goal of improving customer experiences for disabled people all year around. The event is about creating a step change improvement in the awareness of the value and needs of disabled customers, making their experiences more accessible and ensuring that sustainable changes are made.

The programme is created and coordinated by Purple, an organisation that originally aimed to raise awareness of the worth of the Purple Pound – the name given to the spending power of disabled customers and their families. The first Purple Tuesday event was promoted as the UK’s first accessible shopping day and from then has grown, resulting in a host of improvements to the customer experience. Quiet hours, staff training, signage for campaigns such as Every Disability is Not Visible and a commitment to inclusive advertising and more have all been implemented thanks to the popularity of the day.

A whole host of businesses are taking part in this year’s Purple Tuesday, ensuring that as well as trailing changes, every experience will also be Covid safe following the latest government guidelines.
