Did you know that around 400,000 people are affected by both sight and hearing loss in the UK? That’s enough to fill Wembley Stadium nearly five times – so deafblindness is far more common than many people realise. Why not help raise awareness for the condition by taking part in Deafblind Awareness Week from 27th June.

Deafblind Awareness Week is always at the end of June to commemorate Helen Keller’s birthday, 27th June. Helen Keller is one of the best-known people to have lived with deafblindness and made a considerable contribution to the field of sight and hearing loss.

This year, Deafblind Awareness Week runs between 27th June and 3rd July and the theme is to make sure that even more people are in the know about deafblindness by sharing facts and information about the condition as well as your chance to speak to the experts working with Deafblind UK.

Deafblindness affects everyone differently, some might need to adjust the settings on their TV or turn up the volume while on the phone, while others will need assistance dogs and carers. No matter how it does affect you, it can cause difficulties with everyday activities. Find out how you can get involved and raise awareness for deafblindness during awareness week by clicking here.
