Leeds City Council and Visit Leeds have teamed up with the Royal National Insitute of Blind People to increase accessibility for visitors exploring the city centre. Together they have created a brand new book full of braille tactile maps allowing visitors that are blind and partially sighted to explore the city’s best loved landmarks.

The maps were inspired by a member of the public and each one contains locations, landmarks and road names that are translated into braille and are available now from the Tourist Information Centre in the city centre underneath Leeds Art Gallery. Copies are also available via post by emailing the centre on tourinfo@visitleeds.co.uk

Speaking to reporters about the new maps, Cllr Mary Harland, said” Leeds should be open to all and by creating accessibility tools such as these maps, we can help ensure that everybody can enjoy this wonderful city.”
