The Alzheimer’s Society’s biggest awareness campaign is back this month. Dementia Action Week returns on 15th May and will run through to 21st May, working to raise awareness for the needs of those who have dementia, their family members and the condition itself.

This year the week will be focusing on increasing diagnosis rates. According to research by the Alzheimer’s Society, there has been a sustained drop in rates of diagnosis for the first time ever. To understand this, the society looking at the key barriers and benefits to getting a diagnosis. They learned that there is a common misconception around memory loss being a part of getting older, an issue with referral times and people being in denial about their health, all of which are stopping people from getting a diagnosis and receiving the help they need.

This Dementia Action Week, the Alzheimer’s Society will be involving more healthcare professions and raising awareness of the symptoms of dementia to give more people the confidence to seek help.
