Did you know that Autistic Pride Day falls in June?

This annual day, created by the group Aspies for Freedom, is celebrated internationally and is a chance for members of the neurodivergent community to come together and celebrate what makes them, them.

Unlike the more well-known events like Autism Awareness Day, Autistic Pride is primarily a community day, which focuses on the individuals and the diversity among the neurodivergent community rather than raising awareness for charities and organisations. It is run and managed by members of the community, for members of the community and is modelled on the Pride Festivals celebrated by the LGBTQA+ communities across the world.

Celebrating both Autism Awareness Month in April and Autistic Pride Day is a great way to help teach people about how diverse and valuable people with autism are. People with disabilities, including autism, make up the largest and most diverse group of the world’s population. Taking pride in your differences is just one way that we can all learn how to better accept and accommodate people’s needs – so how will you be celebrating your differences this June?

Autistic Pride Day falls on 18th June with a range of community events taking place across the UK. Find out what is happening locally by getting in touch with your local autism charity or organisation.
